History[edit | edit source]
The popularity of the ship and related crossovers is owed in part to a Twitter interaction between Anthony Horowitz, author of Alex Rider, and Eoin Colfer, author of Artemis Fowl, in February 2021. While the tweets themselves received little interaction, they have been shared around both fandoms in screenshots.
I wouldn't dream of getting into a fight with @EoinColfer so hope Alex and Artemis would be pals!
Agreed. Pals. Most likely having faced certain death together.
Despite this conversation happening in 2021, fans have been writing crossovers between the two books since as early as 2004,[1] with some reviewers at the time proposing they be written as a couple.[2] Later in 2004, a fic was posted to Fanfiction.Net featuring the ship, with the author crediting another writer for coming up with the ship and writing the first fic.[3]
The credited first work appears to be "Double Act," first published April 9, 2004, under the username Ever1, then everworld2662, and finally somethinguntraceable, before being deleted some time between 2015 and 2023.[4] The author also wrote a second work based in the same universe[5] and hosts a community for the ship that once had five works.[6]
