The modern Newsies fandom is aware of Tumbler's fanon origins.^[2] He was originally named Spitshake by fans Pixie and Smiley, as he is identifiable through a scene where he and fellow newsie Skittery hug and spit-shake, and was also nicknamed The Littlest Newsie, but the name Tumbler is most popular in current fandom.^[3] He is frequently pictured in a shot from the outro, where he dances in a "tumbling" way, his namesake.^[4] Fanfiction was written about him as early as 2002.^[5]
